A rare chance to see permanent works on paper from an artist mostly known for performance drawing in public spaces. This exhibit puts on display spreads from an 96 page book of drawings that have at their heart a life drawing session with an intimate couple in the artist’s living room. The gestures of touch are occluded by layers of process that tell the story of personal interactions: pencil transferred to copper etching, light from a stage, shadows of the seasons, and the freedom of digital painting. The artist cannot tell the story, there are no words for it, only drawings that move slowly from page to page.
Alley Gallery is located right off the plaza, through a little alley off the east side, in downtown Sonoma at the LaHaye Art Center (148 E. Napa St., Sonoma 95476). www.alley.gallery
